What will seperate SOAP from a typical Pokemon game in terms of interface/etc? Ideas go here. |

S to the P to the Double O-Kay. Why?

more open RPG maker can allow this easily, don't use pokemon graphics plox. Much more potential, and we can make it look so much more awesome. |

We'll have Pokemon-esque graphics, but a lot of the tiles will be custom. |

Okay, I was reading through the original threasd for SOAP. And I just had a kind map idea thing. ![]() So you start in your room. Then get warped to inernetwonderland somehow. You begin in ST, and as you complete difefrent stages/events/stuff, more areas open. So it could spread out from ST, as shown. You could either unlock one 'ring' of areas at a time, or just a couple of areas in each ring. There could be more rings, to incorporate more places. And the lines show interconnections, which would make it more interesting than boring route-based systems. Ignore the crappy squiggly outline. Also, I imagined/envisaged it with more than just the average 'pokemon-style' quests. Like beating someone, and being kinda linear. Including more open areas and find/retreive/explore stuff. Like in Yume Nikki. That was the main inspiration, the freedom and stuff. That's what I really want to see in this game. I hope you understand what I mean. EDIT: Are we using RPG Maker 2k3, or XP? Cause I want to make a test/beta map. Just to see how things will work. Edited by Spooky, May 4 2009, 05:15 AM.

Epic idea, but I don't think the region should be circular. Irregular shaped terrain is awesome! Even better: How about we hide the town map from the player, and let them run around the region? You'd be allowed to explore, but when you get a mission (aka whatever the gym leader fight equivalent is), you'll be given directions to the area where you must go. Also, I think the game should have Voiceovers. But I mean it in the Trauma Center/TWEWY/other games I can't think of right now fashion: short sentences/soundclips (ex. "Yes!" "No!" "What?" "insert catchphrase here") that play whenever a character says something to that extent. |

Yeah, I just doodled the outline randomly. Somewhere in my post I put ignore the outline. Sounds like an ineresting idea, but do you mean like sound voiceovers? Or just text? |

I think Kam meant short sound voiceovers. Which would rule - if XP (the RPGM we're using) can support them. Anyways I like Spooky's idea, but the first thing we really need to work on is the kind of stuff that needs scripts, so I can work on making them. |

Question: Will the character you control be a silent protagonist? Or will he talk? I'd love the game to have an alternate ending: I had an idea for some in the plot idea I was thinking of posting. |

Persoanlly, I think they should be silent, as we don't know what different people would say in each situatrion. Perhaps he/she could talk on occaision, but otherwise I'd say no. Some people like seeing the main charcater getting some speech in, but others may feel that what the character said is not what they would have said/made the character say. Scripting wise? How about, you begin in your bedroom. You are free to explore, etc, interact with things and stuff. (But you can't leave, we could make it like yume nikki, so they just shake yheir head or step away from the door. When you ineract with the computer, you get a couple speech boxes: Do you want to log on? :- Yes/No (If no, you leave the computer) ... ...Logging On... ... You have been logged on. *play some kind of IM contact thing sound here if possible* <Rival> is trying to contact you. Accept? :- Yes/No (Not sure what to dop if you say no here) ... ... ... <Rival> says: Hey there <Player> <Rival> says: Guess what? <Player says: What? <Rival> says: I found a forum you might like ![]() <Player> says: Cool. (: <Rival> says: I've already registered <Rival> says: See you there... ((Put soemthign about how you get into internet here. Could be when you press the link somethingcrazy happens, or you get a virus from someone in an email or soemthing. I don't know)) |

I already started on the beginning stuff of the game, and your rival visits you in your house quickly to tell you about ST, then leaves. You're free to explore your room, but it's raining and you don't want to go outside. I haven't put in the computer yet, but I worked on the intro a bit, where you have a dream involving Seika that explains Pokemon. |
